Online Flying
Flying Online with VATSIM is as easy as clicking a few buttons, All that is required is your FS, and one piece of software. However thats just connecting and being logged into Vatsim, flying online will require some planning and understanding. We suggest you get a Flight planner, the default FS9 flight planner can do the job as long as you plot out the path accurately, it is usually easier and more realistic if you download a separate planner, such as Vatsim's vRoute.
Squawk Box (SB) is typically the most used piece of software for Vatsim flight, and for ease of use, i would recommend it. If you are using FSX, please use FSInn as your software of choice.
Download Software
Please refer to our PALv Getting Started Manual 2008-2009 v2 found on our PALv Messageboards, this manual covers how to fly for PALv on Vatsim, including known issues and bugs. We highly recommend you download and read it before flying online.
Understanding Online Flight
Flying Online on Vatsim can be daunting for first timers, but very rewarding and easy if you understand a few key parts of online flight. The most significant area is Air Traffic Control communication, after all, that is the original purpose of Vatsim and online flight, to provide realistic and real ATC services. You are required to contact ATC if it is in your area, ignoring them is not allowed, and could get you in trouble, not to mention it's rude. You can find a lot of information on ATC communication on the Vatsim Pilot Resource Center (PRC). Before you fly, or if you are not confident, please have a read of the Pilot Resouce Center on Vatsim, no more than a couple of minutes of reading can really solve many issues you will have, and you will learn something at the same time. We expect that our pilots are profficient in online ATC communications before they start flying for PAL virtual.
Events
PALv often holds online Vatsim flying events, this allows all PALv pilots and others interested to fly alongside eachother online on Vatsim. It's kind of a Party for PALv pilots to communiate and share their interests. These events typically center around the Philippines, out of our Hubs of Manila or Cebu, but are not restricted to certain areas. Please feel free to join in on any of our online events, everyone is invited. Arnel is our main man when it comes to events, and will keep us updated on the website and forums of any upcoming or planned fly-ins.
